Reflections on an Evening of Celebration
Brentwood Presbyterian Church, for one memorable night, became a Parisian café. Picture red tablecloths draped over round tables, tea lights glowing softly, and gentle pools of light filling the space. The atmosphere was intimate, the acoustics flawless, and Jaycinthe—our pianist—wove smooth jazz into the background, setting the tone for the evening.
A lavish buffet greeted guests, carefully prepared and overseen by Nela, while Joe kept spirits lifted behind the bar. Shino and Myra stood and raised toasts that warmed my heart; Myra’s words, recalling our father who “bloomed where he was planted,” stays with me.
I shared a reading from “Motorcycle Diaries,” and happily, five bikers were present in the audience. Their presence sparked Yves to share lively motorcycle anecdotes, filling the room with laughter and camaraderie.
Thanks are due to Joe for keeping me refreshed while I read, and to Shino for handling book sales when excitement made us forget to do so. Iris gifted us with beautiful renditions of Chopin and Beethoven, her piano playing one surprise of the night. The Chutney group’s support was felt by all.
Thank you, Myra, for your warmth and love. Your coming to Burnaby from Saskatchewan meant the world to me.
Thanks to shutterbugs Peter and Iris.
And finally, thank you to Yves, who brought everything together—before, during, and after the event. You always have my back.
The evening was a tapestry of shared stories, music, and my heartfelt gratitude, woven together by support for “Never Still.”

Myra, you're coming to Vancouver, took all my concerns and worries away and allowed me to just have fun. I love our long walks and swims, and salads. Thank you for dressing me and doing my hair too.🥰
